Fiber internet in Columbus, OH

Fiber internet delivers your connection through strands of glass thinner than a human hair. Instead of pushing electrical signals through copper wiring the way cable and DSL do, fiber transmits data as pulses of light. That single difference changes everything about the experience. Light travels enormous distances through glass with almost no signal loss, so the speed you pay for is the speed that actually arrives at your home, whether you live next to the network hub or miles away from it.

Cable networks were originally built to deliver television in one direction, then retrofitted to carry internet traffic. DSL runs over telephone lines that were designed for voice calls over a century ago. Both technologies are copper at their core, and copper has physical limits: signals weaken over distance, degrade in heat and moisture, and pick up interference from power lines and electronics. Fiber has none of those problems. It was engineered from the ground up for one job, moving massive amounts of data at the speed of light, and it has decades of headroom built in. As internet demands keep growing, fiber is the only residential technology that grows with them.

Enter your street address in the availability checker at the top of this page. Our system checks your exact location against our live network map and instantly shows you which plans are available at your home. There is no phone call required, no waiting on hold, and no sales pitch. You see real availability in seconds.

Fiber availability works differently than cable availability, and this is worth understanding. Cable companies can usually serve any address where their lines already run. Fiber is built street by street, neighborhood by neighborhood, because every home gets its own dedicated line of glass installed. That is why one side of a street can be live while the other side is still under construction. If our checker shows that your address is not serviceable yet, join the waitlist. Construction crews are expanding the network continuously, and we notify waitlisted households the moment their street goes live. Waitlist signups also help us decide which neighborhoods to build next, so registering your address genuinely moves your area up the priority list.

Our fiber plans range from 200 Mbps all the way up to 8 Gig (8,000 Mbps), and every tier is symmetrical. Even a mid-tier gigabit plan is fast enough to download a full HD movie in under a minute, stream 4K video on every television in the house simultaneously, and keep dozens of connected devices running without any of them competing for bandwidth. But raw download speed is only half the story, and it is the half that cable companies prefer to talk about.

The other half is upload speed, and this is where fiber pulls away completely. Our fiber connections are symmetrical, meaning your upload speed matches your download speed. On a typical cable plan, uploads are a tiny fraction of downloads, often 10 to 35 Mbps on a plan advertised as 500 Mbps. That imbalance is why video calls freeze while everything else seems fine, why backing up your phone to the cloud takes all night, and why sharing a large file feels like it did fifteen years ago. Modern internet life is two directional. Video meetings, security camera feeds, cloud storage, gaming, and posting content all depend on upload capacity that cable simply does not provide.

There is one more advantage that never shows up in advertised numbers. Cable bandwidth is shared across your neighborhood node, which is why cable slows down at 7 PM when everyone gets home and logs on. Your fiber line is yours alone. The speed you get at 3 AM is the speed you get at prime time.

Fiber and WiFi are two halves of a single connection, and understanding the difference explains most home internet frustration. Fiber is the pipe that brings the internet to your home. WiFi is the wireless network that distributes that connection to your devices inside the home. If the pipe coming in is slow, no router on earth can fix it. Most homes that upgrade to fiber discover that their WiFi feels dramatically faster, not because the wireless signal changed, but because there is finally enough bandwidth behind it to feed every device at once.

Think of it like water pressure. A great showerhead cannot help you if the main line into the house is a garden hose. Fiber replaces the garden hose with a fire main. Devices that used to fight each other for bandwidth, like a 4K stream in the living room, a video call in the office, and a game console upstairs, all draw from a connection with room to spare.

Your WiFi hardware still matters, which is why we include a high performance router configured to take full advantage of your fiber speed. During installation, our technicians place the router for the best coverage, test signal strength in the rooms you use most, and can recommend extenders for larger homes. If a distant bedroom still has a weak signal after fiber, that is a WiFi coverage issue rather than an internet speed issue, and we will help you solve that too.

Our technicians handle the entire process from the street to your living room, and most homes are completed in a single visit of roughly two to four hours. Here is what actually happens. First, we extend a fiber line from our network in your street to the side of your home. Depending on how utilities run in your neighborhood, that line either comes in overhead from a utility pole or is buried underground in a shallow trench that we restore when finished. If burial is required, there may be a separate visit before installation day to place the line and to have underground utilities located and marked, which is a standard safety step.

Next, the technician mounts a small connection box on the outside of your home where the fiber terminates. Inside, we install the optical network terminal, the device that converts light signals into a connection your router can use, and then set up your included router and WiFi network. Before leaving, the technician verifies your speeds with a live test, confirms coverage through the house, and helps you connect your main devices. You are fully online before the truck pulls away.

Standard installation is included with your plan. There are no surprise labor charges, no equipment delivery fees, and no visit fees buried in your first bill. We ask only that an adult be home during the appointment and that the technician can access the areas where equipment will be placed.

This is the single biggest misconception about fiber, and it usually comes from an outdated assumption that newer technology must cost more. In practice, our fiber plans are priced to compete directly with the cable and broadband packages most Ohio households already pay for, and they frequently come in lower once you compare real bills instead of advertised rates.

The advertised rate on a cable bill is rarely the number at the bottom of the page. Cable pricing typically stacks a modem rental fee, a WiFi service fee, broadcast surcharges, and assorted line items that can add 20 to 40 dollars to the advertised price. Our pricing is the total price. The router is included, installation is included, and there are no equipment rental fees or hidden surcharges added afterward.

Then there is the value side of the equation. For a comparable monthly cost, cable delivers shared bandwidth with weak uploads over aging copper. Fiber delivers a dedicated symmetrical gigabit line with the reliability of glass. Pull out your current bill, look at the final amount rather than the promotional headline, and compare it to our plans. For most households, fiber wins on price and performance at the same time.

No contract, and no year two surprise. Every Ohio Fiber Internet plan is month to month with no annual commitment and no early termination fee. If you ever want to leave, you simply cancel. We think that arrangement keeps us honest. When a provider cannot lock you in with paperwork, the service itself has to be the reason you stay.

The pricing works the same way. The rate you sign up at is your real, ongoing rate. We do not run the promotional pricing play that the big providers have turned into standard practice, where a discounted first year quietly rolls into a rate that is 20 or 30 dollars higher the month your promotion expires. That model depends on customers not noticing, and it is one of the most common complaints people have about their current provider. What our plan page says is what your bill says, this month and every month after.

Like any business, we cannot promise that prices will never change across decades, but we can promise how we operate: no teaser rates, no automatic escalators built into your plan, and clear advance notice of any change, with the freedom to walk away at any time since nothing holds you here.

Fiber is the most reliable residential internet technology available, and the reason is physics rather than marketing. Glass does not conduct electricity. That single property makes fiber immune to the electromagnetic interference that degrades copper networks, and far more resistant to the conditions that knock cable out: lightning activity nearby, moisture creeping into aging lines, corroded connectors, and the summer heat that causes copper signal quality to drift. Ohio weather throws all of those at a network every year.

Fiber also has fewer points of failure between you and the internet. Cable traffic passes through powered amplifiers and shared neighborhood nodes, and any one of them can take down or degrade service for an entire area. A fiber line is a continuous strand of glass with dramatically less active equipment along the way, which means fewer things that can break.

One honest note that we would rather you hear from us: no technology is immune to a physical line cut, and during an extended power outage your home equipment needs electricity to run, just like your cable modem does today. Many customers place the optical network terminal and router on a small battery backup so internet stays up during outages, and our installers are glad to help set that up. For day to day life, the practical difference is simple. Fewer outages, no evening slowdowns, and a connection that your security cameras, smart home, and work depend on without a second thought.

No, and we want to be specific about what that means, because providers use these terms loosely. A data cap is a monthly usage limit, often around 1 to 1.2 terabytes, after which your provider either charges overage fees or slows your connection to a crawl. Throttling is the practice of deliberately slowing certain traffic, sometimes during peak hours and sometimes targeting specific activities like video streaming, regardless of how much data you have used.

Ohio Fiber Internet does neither. Every plan includes truly unlimited data with no caps, no overage charges, and no deprioritization when your household uses more than average. Stream 4K on every screen, download entire game libraries on release night, run cloud backups for every device in the house, and host as many video calls as your workday demands. A modern connected household can burn through a terabyte faster than most people realize, especially with 4K streaming and large game downloads, and we built our network with that reality in mind. Your gigabit is yours, all day, all month, for whatever you use it for.

You need a power outlet, and that is genuinely it. Everything else comes with the service. During installation we provide the optical network terminal, which converts the light signal from the fiber line into a standard internet connection, and a high performance WiFi router capable of delivering your full plan speed wirelessly. Both are included in your monthly price with no equipment purchase and no monthly rental fee. That matters more than it sounds: the typical cable modem and WiFi rental adds 15 dollars or more per month, which is 180 dollars a year for equipment you never own.

Our technicians set up your WiFi network, secure it, name it however you like, and connect your main devices before they leave. If your home is large or has dead zones, they will tell you honestly whether an extender or mesh setup would help rather than letting you discover it later.

Prefer to use your own router? No problem. Our service works with any standard router, and the installer will connect your equipment and confirm everything runs at full speed. Just know that if you bring your own hardware, achieving gigabit WiFi speeds depends on the capability of your router, so we recommend one that supports current WiFi standards. Either way, there is nothing to buy before installation day. Show up with an outlet and we will handle the rest.
